The village of Fendels

A Tyrolean mountain village in the heart of the Glacier

This tiny, attractively set mountain village, Fendels lies at 1,356 meters above sea level on a high plateau in the middle of the Kaunertal Valley.

Fendels can proudly claim to be a typical Tyrolean mountain village, which had maintained its centuries old Tyrolean traditions and building styles. It is sunny and quiet location and the beautiful view of the Oberinntal Valley that makes Fendels the ideal starting out point for many hikes and mountain adventures.

The base station for the chairlift lies directly in the village, and quickly transports its guest directly into the hiking paradise.

Interesting history

This tiny village, Fendels, was first mentioned in 1288 as "Venels", and belonged to the Laudeck Courthouse. The terracing system for farming on the slopes goes back even into the Romantic Period.

In the 18th Century, Fendels was well known for its wooden carvings.  The artist Andreas Kölle and his sons produced several works of art in their picture carving workshop which can seen today.

In the small Gothic parish church, “zur Himmelfahrt Mariens”, in the middle of the village, you can see the valuable cross of the master wood carver. The altar and pulpit in the parish church in Feichten originated from the workshop of Andreas Kölle.
